Joseph L. "Jay" Corey was
a life long resident of Falmouth and a graduate of
Falmouth High School in 1978. He was an active
participant in basketball at all levels. He played and
coached in the youth programs and at Falmouth High
School. In his senior year, he captained the Falmouth
High School team. He returned to the high school to
coach the freshman team.
Jay was known for his
kind and generous spirit and his positive influence on
people. He was struck and killed when he stopped to help
another motorist trapped in her overturned car after
hitting a patch of black ice.
He died as he lived,
trying to give someone a helping hand. He was constantly
looking out for others and never asking for anything for
himself. He has left a legacy of kindness and
approaching life with a positive attitude.
This tournament is played to honor his memory.

REMEMBERING JOSEPH “DR. JAY” COREY
By Kenneth Pires January 28th, 2001 |
Reminiscing about high school and the first period
called home room
We all had nicknames and of course mine was “Zoom”
Jay Corey was the “doctor,” but not for Julius of the
NBA
For Jay was usually injured from the basketball we would
play
With a crutch by his side and a bandage he was sure to
need
We’d see him at school the next day and ask, how much
did you bleed?Still in good spirits as Jay always was
Cracking jokes, acting a fool, and saying, what’s up
Cuz?
As I think back now, it seems like only yesterday
We were co-captains our senior year for Coach Watson, me
and Dr. Jay
My heart dropped to my feet when I heard he had died
I sat still for a moment and then became teary eyed
Gone a great friend and most definitely too soon
Our time together is limited and there’s no changing
that tune
Jay lived a full life and at heart, was still a big kid
A full life, not measured by years on earth, but by the
people he helped and things he did
If you knew him as I did then I know you would say
If the Lord needed another angel then who better than
Jay |
